95 engine swap

I want to switch out my 4.0 in my 95 xlt and put in a 5.0, 4.6 cobra engine or a lightning engine but I am curious if these will match up with my tranny. I have a 5-speed manuel in there now that is stock, I would think that the 5.0 or the cobra engine would match up but I dont know if the tranny could handle a lightning engine. I am just looking for some ideas and any input is much appreciated. Any suggestions that anybody has please let me know. thanks

You're going to need a new tranny as well. Bad news though. The Cobra (4.6) engine and the Lightning (5.4) engine will NOT fit unless you modify the frame and lots of other work. The new 4.6 is too wide for the Explorer, and the 5.4 is just too big. Sorry.

Um start by searching all the other swaps. Although most of them are for 91-94's alot of the general information will still apply...

But try a cobra or lightning motor.... it'll be alot of work and pricey!
