I am new here ,my name is Bill i own or shoudl say it is my wifes vehicle , i have a 1999 f250 power stroke diesel ,hers is the 1995 ford explorer xlt.
I have two questions on my 95 exp.
1. The check engine light comes on . This is my wifes car and the light has been coming on sense we baught the vehicle back about 5 years ago. Back then it would only come on after about 75-100 miles once the engine warmed up really good, and if speeds were over 70mph , if you dropped speed for a while it seemd the light would temparaily disappear. Now with that said we recently had the engine rebuilt about 1 year ago at 215,000 miles. Now the check engine light is coming on again only not the same way .It comes on after running the vehicle about 15-20 miles ,and stays on. I talked to ford on the previous situation and they said it was a engine mileage thing not to worry, but this time i diagnostically checked it and it came back egr valve low voltage or code 332-335 , i am a little green on using this tester so i am not 100% certain ,but i reran the test three times and it seemed to read the same . i had replacer the o2 sensor because we were leaving on a trip and the vehicle has been running a little rough, lack of power, on accelration, and when idling it will idle fine for a while then act rough then be fine again. So i was pulling our pop up camper and didnt want trouble so the auto parts guy said it is most commonly the o2 sensor so i replaced both , this was before i bought the diagnostic tester and seen it appears to be an egr problem. So would you recomend replacing the egr valve of a sensor , or can the wireing be bad if so how does one remeady that. Will the egr cause the car to lack power on acceleration. The car just has no punch at all.can some one advise me please.
2. this one is weird and i have had a ford mechanic look at it and they cant figure it out they say they havent heard this one before. The vehicle will peridocally moan or make a loud groaning sound coming from the front of the vehicle. It moans very loud , i mean loud, and the sound lasts about 5-15 minutes usually then disappears. The sound appears to come from the air filter box area. ,or from the blower motor area. But the sound is very random. Loud but random It occurred everyday when we would start the car when we were on vacation ,and now were back it hasnt done it once. When Ford tested it they found nothing wrong. Has anyone else had this happen and what is the remeady .The air filter is new .It is very frustating to say the least everyone me included kid teh wife when it happens and says hey you left your fog horn on. When you drive by people and it is groaning people look it is that loud . Sounds like the vehicle wants to take flight.Maybe i exagerate the loudness but it is loud you can hear it over the radio. anyhow if anyone has any suggestions please let me know thanks .You can email me direct as i dont know how often i will see the posts . zwdb08@yahoo.com

Hey has anybody tried the tornado for the airbox ,if so does it work . The guy i work with says it added 1 1/2-2mpg to his 3/4 ton pulling his 5th wheel camper. and seemed to have a little more power. just curious. Thanks again Bill B

re iac

does the IAC make a lot of noise when it isnt working properly ,because the noise is loud. Very loud howling sound . The vehicle seems to run fine when the noise is occurring, and my wife says if you turn on the air the noise seems to stop shortly there after .I myself dont know for sure . I do know the the ford garage here couldnt seem to find the problem ,and said they hadnt ran across it before. They said not to worry as long as it runs ok. Now i did run a diagnostic to find out why the check engine light keeps coming on and it pointed to egr low voltage , do you know anything about the egr , will it cause a vehicle to lack power, and if left to idle for a while it will run rough for a few moments then go back to normal, and occasionally it will act like it wants to die them seem to go back to normal (especially when you first start the exp , if you are running the ac) . Will the IAC make the check engine light come on as well? And does it effect the lack of power? Thanks for your help i will check this IAC ... Bill Butcher I f i was ricj i would just take it in for repiars , my problem is i am nickel and dime ing myself tryimng to figure this out already .I just replaced both o 2 sensors because that is what a local mechanic said usually goes bad on the exp. at $128.00 ,and it runs the same .

I also have a '95 and when I first got the vehicle I would experience similar problmes with the CEL. It would come on after the truck was at normal operating temperature, stay on for 10 or 15 minutes and then go out. It would stay out, sometimes for weeks at a time, and then randomly come back on. Vehicle performance was never affected. I took off, cleaned, and replaced my IAC, and not only does the engine operate smoother, I have never again had the CEL come on. Just a suggestion.

The EGR code is most likely a bad DPFE (egr pressure sensor). This won't cause a lack of power though. Purely emissions.
