I bought a '95 Sport Auto 4X4 with 130K mi recently. The transmission shifts well when it's cold and I've never had a significant problem with it in any gear but first. Occasionally when the tranny is in 1st and the tranny is warm, I come to a complete stop then accelerate to go again when I hear a loud "clunk" noise and it seems like it takes the tranny a few seconds to "re-engage." My OD light doesn't flash and there are no other obvious symptoms. From time to time, it will take a few seconds to engage in reverse but from what I've read here, that is a common issue. Do you folks think I might have an impending transmission failure? I was thinking that it might be a bad seal somewhere since the warm temp (=thinner fluid) seems to make a difference. Thanks in advance.

Check your fluid level and condition. It could be just low. If it is brown and smells really bad, your tranni could be on it's way out. Try a fluid and filter change. Good luck.
Peace

Fluid & Filters Changed

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention that I did have the transmission fluid & filters changed a couple of weeks ago and they used the synthetic fluid so I don't think that's my problem.
