This might have been asked in the past but instead of searching the many post to find it i figured i'd go ahead and ask. We recently had some work done on our transmission/transfercase. The metal plate inbetween had come loose and was leaking. The mechanic that fixed it for us said that the front drive shaft was disingauged but the transfercase was stuck in 4wd high and was the cause of the bad vibrations and was the cause of everything coming loose underneath the explorer. He also told us that there is a sensor plug on the backside of the transfercase that two wires are supposed to be connected to and that both wires are broken off flush with the plug. Now are these the wires that control the transfercase to kick it in and out of 4wd? Is the transfercase supposed to always be in 4 high? All i really know is that since this vibration started a long time ago our gas mileage has dropped dramatically, and once this past winter we had a problem getting it to switch out of 4wd back into 2wd. The light on the dash would go out but still was in 4wd but eventually i guess the front drive shaft was disingauged but as the mechanic said the transfercase was still engauged causing the vibration. Any help will be greatly appriciated.
