Truck running all funky...stalls at some points, when at a stop. Took it to a canadian tire locally and had the codes read.

The printout reads as follows..

Codes 214 - Cylinder ID(CID) CKT FAU LW
Cam sensor, 116 - ECT or EDT S
Sensor out of range, also
Suggest Thermostat and Temp
Guage, Cleared Codes

Note: Temperature Sendor, Temperatur LW
Sensor Suggested first...

HELP!?!?!?!?!

Temp Sensor? And if so where is it located???

Trying to save some $$ after having the codes read.

95 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD

On a side note..the O/D Off light beginning to flash....

Please and thanks to all users that answer.

The 214 would be a memory code indicating a problem in the ignition system (specifically the cylinder id/tach signal generated by the CMP sensor). This is likely the cause of your stalling/stumbling.

The 116 could be either KOEO or KOER. A false KOEO/KOER 116 is easily set by performing the test on a cold engine. The tech's printout doesn't specify which type of code each is, so the only way to know would be to ask him or pull the codes yourself (only requires a paper clip/jumper wire to do).

Unless you knew for absolute certain that the engine was up to temperature when he pulled the codes, I would probably ignore the 116 and focus on the CM214.

I'm not real familiar with the CMP sensors on the later model EEC-IV's (my '92 only uses a CKP), but they do pop up now and then. Before I ran out and just replaced the CMP (it's fairly expensive and not real easy to get to I understand), check the wiring. It seems that the CID signal is sent to the EEC-IV computer by the ICM (which uses the CKP/CMP sensor to generate it), so be sure to check the ICM for proper power and ground and all the connections between the ICM and the PCM. If your local library has one, get a proper manual (libraries here carry mostly Mitchell) with pinpoint tests and such to help organize your diagnosis.

um....*ahem...quite tech for me. I'll have to venture off to the library, or buy a haynes manual. I'll look for keywords that you have stated..but as far as this is concerned--->I'm not real familiar with the CMP sensors on the later model EEC-IV's (my '92 only uses a CKP), but they do pop up now and then. It's all greek to me!

Thanks so much for the insight...*sigh I have so much to learn.

EEC's and CMV's oh MY!

I am having the same problem with the flashing O/D light on my 95 as well. Does your transmition not shift properly? I still havn't figured it out yet and no codes come up when I got it scaned. If you figure it out let me know.

Your answer as well as mine....

OD flashing stopped..Temp sensor guage changed, tranny fluid changed..my gf had the work done...I'll find out what else she had worked on...NOw my only problem is a Cam Sensor...$1600 bucks from Ford. No mechanic wants to take the task on..engine removed to access the back where the sensor is located...part is about $600 bucks  If they brake it they pay so they don't wanna chance it.

I don't think you have to pull the motor to remove the cam possition sensor. To me it only looks like you need to remove the upper intake. That sensor sits in the hole where the distributor on an older motor would be. As for the sesor, get one from the junkyard(20 Bucks). Unless its a SOHC motor then never mind.

For the OD blinking problem, disconnect the battery for 5 minutes. This will reset the light. If it starts blinking again, get it checked out. When the light is blinking, it's in limp/cripple mode which forces hard transmission shifts. It's not good to drive it any distance like that.
