Ok this is the story. Last Saturday Got Sunoco gas. Went to a party. Left the party, got on the highway hit 55 mph, I feel a faint hesitation and then as I am presseing the gas pedal to the floor the car is slowing. I am near an off ramp so i get off meanwhile the truck is even slowing more. I get onto the main road and she dies. I try to restart it sputters and back fires but starts. Now she runs fine. the O/D starts blinking and goes in safe mode but no CEL light. When running in safe mode she runs like nothing is wrong. Sunday I reset the computer take her out and she runs fine. Monday go to work, no problems. On the way home, taking the back way home, she does the same thing again. The car slows as i am pressing the gas pedal to the floor. She dies at the light, try to restart and she sputters and back fries, but finally starts. She has been sitting since yesterday and i take it to the shop. The check fuel pressure. It was low, the fuel pump was replaced 4 weeks ago. The put another one in and check the pressure. Pressure is good. Take her out for a spin, same thing happens. Take it back and they replace the fuel filter. Now the car become a little hard to start. Take her out for a spin and still the same damn thing. Now my friend has paid me for the truck, Ihave my new truck and no one can seem to understand what is going wrong. Has anyone else ever had this problem. I have to have this fixed by Sunday. Can anyone give me any suggestions as to what i might look at? Like I said no CEL has been thrown

I do not know much of anything, or what could be causing it. I would check these things first: I would clean the intake/maf. Make sure it isn't something like that. Then I would look in the engine for anything loose. You checked the pressure, but maybe the injectors are fouled. Also, maybe the plugs are fouled.
Thats all I can think of to check.

im having i a similiar problem so any one with any other ideas would be helpful. what i did so far: replaced the air control meter, cleaned throttle body and intake manifold, replaced fuel filter. now it starts up right away but when the engine is running for a while if im in traffic it starts to sputter and shuts off. once it shuts off it will not start right away until about ten - fifteen minutes later; any suggestions?

I had a similar, though not quite the same, experience with mine. it would stall out while idling, say at a red light. I replaced the IAC, about $30 if I remember correctly, and that has solved it. Not sure if that will help, but figured I would throw it out there.

The MAF cleaning procedure comes to mind, you can find that on the internet.

Crapping out at full throttle or a predetermined time along backfire could be clogged cats/exhaust/backpressure issue.

I had a similar problem with my 95 ford F-150... It was cuz of a crack in my distributor cap. Moisture was entering. Was it raining of or wet out when this was happening? Just a possibility.
