Members,

I have 95 Explorer that when I turn the heater on, the heat would only come out on the defroster vent up by the windshield regardless of the knob position.
I can not direct the heat to any other vents (feet, top/face, or any others).
Any ideas what to check first?..
Thanks!

heater - defrost only

Look on the left side of the engine (from the front) about halfway back next to the exhast manifold. There is something that looks suspiciously like a bomb - it is round and about 5 inches in diameter. That is a stupid!!! vacuum tank. You lost a vacuum hose connected to it. Feel around towards the firewall, you'll eventually find it. Your vents are operated by vacuum motor.

Good luck

Just thought I'd let you know that I had the same problem and got the same fix. Found out on the way to the dealer that it also operates the four wheel drive cause it was a snowy day & I was slipping & sliding on the way .

> 95Explorer heater ventilation - vacuum tank question

Thanks for the info Bill,
I now have question:

Does that stupid vacuum tank also control the four wheel drive functions somehow ?!... I traced a couple vacuum lines that go from the tank to an area by the passenger side headlight. What are those connections ?..

Thanks again for any replies.
