'96 4.0 Tranny question

Hello there. I have a problem with my trannie. When i take off, i must first put in 1st gear and then go to drive. Otherwise it won't move. Sometimes, when it's cold, it starts in drive too, but generally i have to go through 1st then drive. After that, as long as i keep it in drive, it holds pressure (eg. red light stop, etc, no need to go to 1st to move).
Reverse works ok.

Any ideeas?

All items in the trannie are new, except for the valve body, which i bought from a company, that sells refurbished ones.

it could be your electronic pressure control solenoid read the tranny sections of this forum it has great details on how to fix minor problems and the sticky say it may be band adjustments

EPC I don't think so, because the solenoid is new, and i don't have any errors. I think is more likely the band adjustment. I'll try to do it properly if i understand how
