- '96 Explorer XLT
This past May, I did some serious damage to my '96 Explorer XLT. After 16 years of driving the best damned car in the world, I hit (of all things) a Honda CRV and, while the crumple zone did what it was supposed to, I'm not up to the work needed to revive her. Looks like a giant can opener took out the right front fender. The Honda survived with only a blown out rear cargo window.
I started looking for a used Explorer that could use a transplant and have found a couple. I'd be real interested in finding out if the engine from my '96 could replace the SOHC 4.0 L from a '98 4x4 XLT. They sure don't look the same from up top...
Would appreciate your feed back.
