Thanks for reading and trying to help! 1996 4x4 4.0l with 84k on the ticker

really weird problem going on here. this is a random occurance, that's what makes it scary. When I start the truck up it bogs "up and down never going over 800rpm's" and then finally dies. After 3 tries of turning the key it finally starts up like nothing is wrong. after the start up the truck drives and shifts perfect no problems what so ever. I just don't want to be out in the middle of the getteho and not have my truck not start! my problem happens like i said at random and i just dont get it?!?! thank you for your input.

it migh be the IAC (idle air control) i think thats what it is called, do a search on it.

try cleaning the MAF, i had the same thing, but it would always start, just wouldnt go above around 1k rpm unless i went WOT and hten didnt go past 3500 rpm.... as soon as i let off, it would sputter and dies
