Yes, I've searched. I got a '96 with the 5.0. Under acceleration it stumbles and chugs a bit. On a cold start up it will start right up and then die down so it almost dies and is barely running and then it will go to a normal idle. Sometimes it will die 2 times and then return to normal idle on a cold start up.(Worse on a cold day.) These symptons sound like DPFE but the '96 5.0 dosen't have a DPFE from what I've read by doing searches. What else could it be then? Any suggestions?

Stumbling while accelerating could possibly be plugs and wires, possibly the coil pack. It could be something as simple as the mafs and computer needs to be reset.

Oops forgot. New wires, new plugs, reset computer. It only stumbles or hesitates for just a couple short seconds and sometimes it dosen't do it all. It's only when starting off as well. When I'm moving down the highway it moves just fine or when it's idling, it's just fine. Just when starting off does it stumble.

Check your MAF and IAC. When it is running, pull off the connector wire and see if it starts to stall. If nothing happens, the part is probably bad.

The maf on a '96 5.0 is where? I know the iac is right on top of the intake.

in the airbox if it had the cone type intake

It does have the cone type intake. Do I need to remove the airbox to get at the maf?

yeah its in the actual housing. you can see where the plug goes in the back

Yeah I see the plug going in there. Thanks!

Cleaned the maf and the iac. Nothing changed. I did notice today that when I'm in drive and stopped, sometimes the idle will be rough for a bit and then smooth right out again. It feels like a miss when it does this. When your taking off from a light, it will hesitate and then take off like it's supposed to and never act up after that. When I'm in the driveway and it's idling and I step on the gas like I'm going to rev it up, it dosen't feel all there at first and then revs right up. It hesitates before it does this. ?????

Someone has to have an idea here.

Nothings changed. Had codes read because I know my CEL is burnt out. No codes....nothing. Had it done twice to double check and nothing came up then either.

Now it's doing it when I stomp on the gas at a stop light. It feels like an engine misfire for a second or two and then takes off just fine. Sometimes when I stomp on the gas to go(Trying to figure out what's wrong here) I get a popping noise from what sounds like the air filter box. Almost like it's not getting enough air or something. I checked the throttle body and the valve inside that opens and that opens just fine, like it's supposed to. I even did the zip tie trick on the gas pedal to make it open all the way up under full throttle. Nothing. Doing the same thing. I just changed the plugs and wires and it started to do this after I did this. Is it possible I got bad wires? If the gap on the plugs was off would it do this? If I sit at a drivethrough at a bank or something, sometimes I can feel the engine shake or miss and can hear what sounds like a plug wire of something arcing off of the headers or block or something like that off the wall of the drivethrough. What I don't understand about all of this is the fact that after I'm moving from a stop light, everythings fine. Shifts fine, and accels just fine. It's only from taking off from a stop or ideling....sometimes.

What kind of plugs did you get? what did you gap them at? Do you have a chip? Try using higher octane gas? Firering order correct?

Started after new wires and plugs? than thats most likely were to problem is plain and simple.
If you think you have an arcing problem, go out tonight when the sun go's down and move some wires around (be Carefull) if you have arcing plugwires, you will see it

Plugs are motorcraft and gapped at, I think if I remember, .065. Wires are from a parts house around here. no chip, fireing order is correct, double checked that. It just has to be the wires. I do remember now that I ran sea foam through the motor after I changed the plugs and wires also. I don't think that would have anything to do with it though. If it's not the wires then what? How can I check the coil packs?
