96 5.0L Misfire cyl 7

I tried a full tune up with bosch idredium plugs and it ran great till the other night the check engine light came on and i got it checked out and the code was for cyl 7 i thought by changing my to coils it would take care of it but it didn't. At this point I can use all the help i can get!!!!!:exp:

There are many reasons for a misfire, but
Fords don't seem to play well with Bosch plugs. This is a problem I see on all ford forums. Hate to say it but you should change to motorcraft or autolite, or at least keep that in mind. Start by moving plugs around and see what happens.

Did you pull the plug and see what it looks like?

Make sure you gOt the boot snapped onto the plug after you changed it.

Are the plug wires old? With old brittle wires it's easy to break them when you're trying to get the wire off the plug

It would be very odd for your fuel injector to fail right after a tuneup. Check your plugs, those bosh irid are junk from my experience. I'd say it's either your plug wires or the plugs that's the issue.

I think it's the plug, check that first. Could also be a bad wire, every now and then a bad one does make it out of the factory.

I've had all sorts of bad luck with plug wires new out of the box.

Well it's getting fuel then. If you have your old plugs still I would put of of them in just to confirm the problem goes away, then I would replace all of the bosch plugs you just put in with motorcraft plugs.

If it fixes your problem box those fellas back up and return them, then pickup the $2 or $3 motorcraft, use that extra $$ savings for a 12pack of your favorite beer.

Yup, just went thru this same crap on another forum with bosch plugs! They last for X amount of weeks, months and then its misfire city.

Try one of your old wires and your best looking old plug.

You might have a problem with the rings on that cylinder. Is it black as in oil or black as in wet and soaked in gas?

I've been trouble shooting this same issue with my 95 4.0. It started about 2500 miles after doing a tuneup with new coil, wires and Bosch Platinum plugs and it was just a light misfire at idle. The truck seemed to run fine off idle. I thought it was an issue with the injectors so I cleaned them and it still did the same thing.

A couple days ago the misfire got really bad and I pulled the plugs on 1 and 6 which were misfiring. Turned out the porcelain was completely gone on number 1. This is now with 3500 miles on the plugs. So today I bought some $1.99 Autolites and the misfire is completely gone and the truck is running great again.

i had a misfire on the same cylinder and it turned out to be a faulty wire (and the wires were fairly new). Replaced with autolite performance wires.
