Haha, I didn't even see your post. I am wondering the same thing. I need a stronger tranny. Mine likes to eat Tourqe Converters. And its costing Ammco a lot of money! Thank god for warranties!
A4LD was pretty much all you would get in the stock 1st gen and early 2nd gen "X" - automatic that is... 2wd or 4wd... I'm just wondering if there were other choices available in 96.
I dont think there were, but i want a heavier duty trans than what i have now. A lot of the prerunner ranger guys run different tranny's but i don't know if they bold up to the explorer.
the A4LD ceased to exist with the 94. 95 was variously called either the A4ld-E or the 4R55... by 96 it was called the 4R55... An electronically shifted A4LD.... basically. It CAN be strengthened... see "My A4LD Rebuild Diary" on here or BRAIN's thread on Frankentranny....
