Hello all,
I have a 96 5.0. The rig has certainly paid for itself, but not by any grace, to say the least. I do not own an obdii, so I have been reading as much as possible trying to pick the right course. This forum seems to be on top of many of the issue concerning this vehicle. So here we go!
First, the rig will not idle, nor even run with the maf plugged in. I have taken it apart and used proper tech and chemicals to clean it... disconnected the battery to reset the computer... Nada! When running without the maf in-line. the vehicle will idle great 90% of the time. While giving it any gas it will all but shut off, emit many grand backfires from the throttle body, and slowly get up to speed and mostly run great at above 55mph. All I can think is timing advance or retard issues. While running i pulled the little block that I thought closed the circuit for the coil packs.. seemed to make no difference. Also it will sometimes start and then just not even move nor accelerate at all just sits and chugs, pops and eventually floods and stalls, i release the pressure at the fuel rail and it seems to comeback to life. Also the heater/ac unit will not change from hot nor will it change the vent settings from anything but the floor. not sure if the ac unit even works, I just know that it will only emit hot air not outside air. I have been thinking that this could be a main vacuum leak that is helping with my problem. I have also considered the crank position sensor not sure if this will help. I have changed the plugs and wires, which were the original factory ones after 180000 when I got this truck. I cant help but to believe a bunch of stuff isn't the same. It seems to, when running okay , to really be a worthwhile vehicle to pour some money into, I just dont have alot to give it. I enjoy working on it and appreciate any help you guys can give.
