4R55E IIRC and its only done it when its been below freezing.

Sounds like grinding in reverse. All others fine.

I will try to get Ford to read the codes next week. Fluid level is full.

This is about the 5th time in 6 months that its done it. Whats strange is once it warms up it makes no noise.

It is SLOW to get into Reverse though, like 6 seconds or so. Not slow at all to get into drive.

High mileage tranny, but vehicle is worth nothing otehr than its been a super driver, appx 350K miles by oil changes, odo not always working shows about 295K miles.

I'd like to fix it, but don't want to dump thousands into it, as the engine is same mileage and whats the point of putting 6-7 K give or take into a new motor and transmission.

And I'm shy of rebuilds, been reading trying to solve this now for a few months every time I have a bit of time. Seems like maybe a shift solenoid and the delay in shifting in may not be torque converter related so i'm kind of hoping.... put the pan, replace a part or parts, and put the pan back on again and go.

Thanks, Jeff

Shift solenoids do crap out from time to time. Maybe drop the pan and replace the valve body including all the solenoids.
