I have a 2000 ford ranger, manual with the 4.0 ohv engine. The engine is junk but I can get a 96 ranger engine, also a 4.0 ohv for very cheap. Id like to swap the 96 into the ranger but have a concern with the flywheel and clutch assembly. I know that the 2000 has an 8 bolt pattern flywheel, and from what ive read the 96 has a 6 bolt pattern.
Heres the question I havent been able to find the answer to. Will the flwheel and clutch set up work in the ranger? I want to just drop the whole engine assembly into the truck, after swapping sensors and such. Has anyone done this swap? I have found plenty of postings with info on putting the newer engine into an older truck, but none vice versa. Thanks for you help.
