I've got a 96 4.0 liter V6 2WD that's got me about ready to pull my hair out. It started idling and running really rough last week, then eventually the MIL came on. I had the code read at AutoZone, and it came back as P0302 (I think), or misfire in cyl. #2.
So yesterday I changed the plugs and wires, which seemed to make a slight improvement. I drove it on a couple of errands, and by the time I was done, I realized it was still pretty bad. I don't know how to explain it other than it's just running really rough- shaking a lot. The RPMs don't seem to be affected by all this, and it travels OK- just not quite as quickly as once it was.
So today I swapped out the air filter, cleaned the MAS and the IAC and looked around for vacuum leaks- there was one tubing union that looked a little fishy, so I fixed it. But the truck is still running poorly, especially in gear. In neutral it seems like it's okay- or at least a lot better than it was before the plugs and wires.
Anyone got any ideas as to what I should look at next? I'm no mechanic, but I feel okay on some stuff. Thanks a million for any help you can render!
