i have the 4.0L V6 in my 97 and it seems at times that it takes a minute to get the rpm's up, like the tranmission is slipping. When i am going up a small hill going 45 mph and i give it a little gas it takes about 3 seconds for the rpm's to rise. Is this a transmission problem or just the result of having a V6

I think its the tranny. The SOHC has enough power to go up hills easy. I have a 97 4/0 V6 too and my tranny went at 80,000. How many miles do you have?

its got about 74,000

it doesn't sound like a tranny problem, it sounds like a hesitation problem, they are noted for this. I suggest, cleaning out the MAF, IAC and go from there.
