97 Aerostar wants to die when in gear.

Hi all. I have a 97 Aerostar cargo van wint a 3.0 v6. All of a sudden it started to want to die when I put it in gear. I can't even feather the accelerator to keep it running. It starts fine and idles a little rough but as soon as I try yo put it in gear and go somewhere it wants to die. I have changed the fuel filter and checked all the electrical connections but still no change. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to this forum! Do you have a check engine light? If so, then there should be a trouble code stored in the PCM.

It was the mass air flow sensor. Had to rent a code reader to find out but it is fixed.

Thanks for the update! What were the code numbers? Some auto parts stores like Autozone read codes for free.

I do not remember the number but it said mas air flow low input. The code started with a p10... If I could have driven the van to the auto parts store they would have read it for free, but I could not keep the van running long enough to go anywhere.
