I have a '97 EB and plan to tow a 5200 lb. boat/trailer. I believe with my setup, 4.0 SOHC, 4.10 rear end and tranny cooler my tow capacity is around 5700lbs. I'm looking for performance mods that will increase overall power but especially low end for towing.
I'm looking at the following mods:
Jacobs Electronics DIS system
K&N filter system
Oil Cooler
either an additional tranny cooler or replace the stock with a heavy duty
1) Has anyone used a similar setup for towing 5000+ loads? How did the Explorer handle it?
2) The Jacobs DIS package claims 12% increase in fuel, 8-10 HP and 10-12% in low-end torque. Anyone have any experience with Jacobs?
3) I see from other posts most people go with a chip upgrade and KKM filter kit, Why?
4) I have 62,000 miles and just had the transmission flushed. Should I be worried about putting such a stress on this tranny?
