97 Exp 4wd 4.0L V6 SOHC Shock Question

Need to replace the shocks. Any suggestions of a good shock to use? I do general driving and occasionally (maybe 2 or 3 times a year) drive on the beach. Do I also nedd boots for them? Thanks in advance for any input.

KYB gas a just are good. Pass on the boots, I pulled mine off recently because the drain holes were always plugged and having boots was actually causing rust not preventing it.

You'll get many differing opinions on which shocks people prefer as ride quality is very subjective. And, reading online reviews only confuses the decision making. I did what I could to research this when I replaced mine last year. General consensus seemed to indicate the KYB's were firm...Monroe's were soft...and Gabriel's were in the middle. I went with Gabriel Max Controls and am very pleased with them so far.

I have a set of KYBs on my 01, I gave $10 for them, all four, off a kid's 99 he was parting out, they're firm, but I like the stiffer ride a lot.
