I was curious for those who own a 97 explorer......does the parking/headlight icons supposed to be lit & also the right side of the steering wheel cruise control. My left side (ON/OFF) crusie control lights up but not the SET/COAST...) right side.

I am guessing it is a nightmare to replace the bulbs & also does anyone know what bulbs they are?

Thanks & HAPPY NEW YEAR!:D

I've never noticed the headlight icons, but the lights on both sides of the steering wheel for the cruise control should light. I can't tell you what bulbs or how hard they are to replace, I've never had to do it.

Thanks...I will check into it now that I know!

go L.E.D. they are easier then you think to change, and cheap to do. i just did all the bulbs in my truck from god awful green to blue. it took me about a day to do them all, and it looks great. my truck is a 98, and should be the same for you. i read this link, it is very helpful. i even did the door switches while i was at it.

Hi JKool,

I have a 97 Explorer, I have not paid attention to the parking/headlight light you are talking about. But I am right now in the process of replacing my cruise control switch assy. My left side (on/off) light just went out. The Ford dealer in the area I live charged me 88.00 for the assy. You get both sides, they are attached all together by a small 'ribbon' type cable. You have to remove the airbag and I found out you have to remove the steering wheel. The part itself is easy 4 screws (2 on each side) holding the pads and then there are 3 or 4 wiring connectors and that is it. What makes it time consuming is the removing of the steering wheel, because the way the wiring is routed (under the wheel).

Now if you don't want to buy the whole assy, Ford does not have any fix or bulb replacement for these lights. So unless you pry apart the pad (set/coast/resume) and figure out some other way to illuminate you will probably have to look through the 'threads' in here for a mod.

Hope this helped,

WOW...I think I will just live w/o the lights for now anyway.

Thanks for the info! :)
