I'm short of a manual for my Explorer (97 on the R) and was wondering if one of the buttons on the right hand side of the seat might make the seat back extend a little bit more? I'm certain a couple of them just whirr and do nothing on mine.

At 6'2 in height, the impact / neck support for a rear end smash would be negligable. Mind you as I explained to my wife to avoide a collision I would just run around the footwell. :D

I'm afraid that the seat back does not extend at all and the head rest is part of the seat. However as someone who has been hit up the back 3 times now, I can assure you that I did not suffer any neck strain at all and the x survived very well (not even a scratch).
