97' - 5.0 - Mountaineer
Went to Northwest auto in anchorage here last week, my favorite kind of parts buying - a UPULL salvage yard. I was looking for interior stuff to update my Mounty or replace my tattered console top. I stumbled upon some heated 01 Excursion Limited seats that looked like they'd be a fit. I know they're a little big, but not having a tape measuring device i went and borrowed one and some tools to test fit it on my passenger side. BOOM - nice fit indeed... best to remove the arm rest with the same torque bit as the seatbelt bolt

The base from the Mountaineer stock seats carry over except the bolt holes only line up front to back, not width wise however. I solved this for the other 2 bolts with a drill and some bolts and wingnuts. The seat motors still accomplish everything fine, and move smoothly through all extremes.

* I finished working on the passenger side wiring the heated seat in and the bolt hole drilling... *They look nice and are comfortable! I got a hold of them for under 200 bucks, usually those seats go for 2-400 a piece... Mainly because they didn't have the driver seat in the system so they let that one go for 50 bucks...

**Sorry this took so long, back to work this week, driver side this weekend-w/how-to

The passenger base in the Excursion wasnt powered, so I had to cut holes to fit my switch box
Probably end up gluing it in once I finish the other one.

Cheers

Very interested!!

I've just installed 04 EX seats on mine last week. Can I see a pic of yours? Mine's on youtube video.

Do you have a link to your video? I was wondering if that would work as I found an 03 Mounty in a nearby junkyard.

It's under my post. One member kind enough to put the video right below my post under "3rd Gen leather seats installed on 97 EX".

I dunno what you think but it was quite a bit of welding to get the 03 manual seat mated to a 97 powered base. I've also mounted the seat switch to console.

I didnt weld my seats, there was plenty of metal to drill a hole and put a 1/4in bolt and wingnut.

That did it, I'm hunting for Excursion seats now!:D

the nice thing was that since the base transfered over so well, the seat belt buckle still fits fine. The major differences are the comfort level is some much better and the seat doesn't lean forward as far, but my mountaineer seat base makes it move till its 3 inches from the glove box, so no big deal

They sure look comfy . Im on the hunt now thanks for the info

I know this is an old thread, but how much higher did it sit in the lowest position then the stock explorer seat?

totally worth it

IT sits about 2 inches higher, mainly due to the contour of the seat and the added padding. I'm 6' 3'' and still fit nicely though... even without much of a "gangster lean" haha.
