Need to replace a motor mount, oil pan leaks, and I need to replace the rear main seal, neither leak is major, just needs to be done.
Just bought the truck (1 previous owner, leased) it was driving fine, then started feeling like it might be downshifting a little hard when coming to a stop light. Took it on the freeway and was doing 70 when the check engine light came on, did not notice a difference in performance other then the downshifting at lights. Checked code when I got home and it came up "P1744 Torque Converter Clutch Perf"
Talked to a few guys and I heard the auto trannys during these years were pretty rough, and Ford eventually came out with an upgrade kit, true? Been searching and haven't found anything on that. Also that it could be the solenoid or torque converter.
I'm half ass mechanically inclined, got tools and a Haynes book now and I would like to try and fix it myself instead of taking it to the shop.
I was hoping for a point in the right direction, not sure if the leak in the rear main could cause something like this? The tranny fluid is topped off and it is Fords mercon as far as I know. Do they make this upgrade kit? Or does it sound more like the solenoid or torque converter? Is there a way to test any of it? Think I gave all the info if you need more let me know and any and all help is greatly appreciated.
