i have a 97 xlt sohc w178,000 miles went out to go to store and ex just cranks but wont start. fuel pump runs and there are no codes on the obd2.There is no spark at the plugs didnt check the coil but i dont think its bad? im thinking CKP or TPS? any thoughts? thanks for your help.
Dude the dreaded problem with the 4.0 sohc is timing tensioners what are talking about. Did you even read what he said hes not getting any spark. You apperenty have the little sister to this engine. He needs to check his connections and fuse box for any blown fuses its very possible that the coil pack is bad.
Well lucky for me the problem was easier than i thought and didn't cost anything. Turns out the crank position sensor was dirty with oily sludge. so a quick clean and wipe off and she fired up.
thanks for the help anyway. still this forum and site are an excelent resource and i will continue to use it.
