I just changes transmission fluid and filter. I used Valvoline Mercron V. I put approx 4.5q of it in and when I hold the accellerator at on place it shifts fine, but when I push the pedal down ( like you are trying to pass some one which I am not) it kindof like slipps out of gear and rev's high. I didn't take it very far just maybe a mile. When I pulled over, stopped and tried to go again the engine reved up but the car didn't go anywhere, like it was in neutral. I had to restart the car and it would engage so I could get home. I need your help...

Check the fluid level.

I checked the level and it is fine. I put 4.5 quarts in it. I ended up taking it to the transmission shop and they put it on the diag. machine and they are in the process of tearing it apart. Thanks for your help.

Was it doing the same thing prior to you changing the filter and fluid?

Did you try manual 1st, manual 2nd, D, and OD, or just OD?

Correct me if I'm wrong, my T-Bird holds over 12 qts with a filter and fluid change. I'm not sure what the X's tranny capacity is, and you say you only put in 4.5qts. Might want to double check it again. How much fluid did you drain out?

Joe

The TOTAL capacity is about 10.5 quarts (depending on cooler size, etc.), but not all of it is drained out during a filter change. The torque converter for the 4.0L doesn't even have a drain plug (like some vehicles do), so the quantity of fluid sounds about right, but to be sure keep checking the dipstick.

that happened to me on mainstreet! my filter was pluged, then 400miles later i needed a new tranny :(
