The 97 Ranger was the last year of the old pseudo-IFS front suspension. There are MANY lift kits available for this setup.
The 98-up Ranger has a front end much like the 95-up Explorers. Even for Rangers, it's difficult to find lift kits (call for details is a common refrain).
The new IFS is a COMPLETELY different animal - my wife's 98 Explorer has noticeably sharper steering than my 97 Ranger, attributable in part to the rack and pinion steering.
However, it doesn't look nearly as sturdy as my Ranger. She isn't going to beat her Explorer to death or anything, but there are definitely places I will go that she won't follow. Considering she's broken a 68 FJ-40 twice, I appreciate her caution ;-)
Regards,
Brian
