Call Paul or Peter and order it from them. It cost me $20 they shipped it from thier location in Colorado to me in New Jersey. Thier phone # is on one of the previous post.

GOT IT TO WORK!!!!!!!!!

So here's how I did it:

I have a 95 explorer XLT and I'm swapping for a 98 XLT CD/Cassette Radio
95 explorer radio part# = F57F-19B165-AE
98 explorer radio part# = F87-18C868-CD

He told me the install is just like installing an aftermarket radio
He said the only problems that he has expierenced is the illumination of the 98 radio in the 95.
He said to test the orange wires before hand to make sure there is proper power running.

Now he told me to go to a local radio/stereo shop (Circuit City, 6th Ave ect.) to get the harness.
There are 2 harness needed.

Part #'s are
70-5600
71-1771 (order this for the radio shop in colorado, thier phone # is 1-303-761-6022 talk to Paul )

These are "Metra" part #'s

I had a hard time trying to find the 71-1771 part so I ordered it from Paul & Peter who are located in Colorado.
They charged me about $20.00 including shipping to NJ.

I soidered the wires together but you can use butt-connectors. There are going to be 3 wires on the the Rectangular shaped barness that don't connect to anything. They are blue (this is for a power antenna, it's labled power ant), blue w/ a white stripe(is power for the amp) and orange (I don't remember what this is for).
The blue w/ the white stripe is the power for the amp. Paul told me to Take the blue w/ whit stripe wire and soider it into the ingintion wire located on the harness w/ the retangular end. The color of that wire is RED.
Because I did not have that hooked up when I 1st set up the radio that is why I experieced no sound coming out of the speakers but everything else worked!

Peter and Paul walked me through the steps and were EXTREMELY helpful! I believe they own a private radio install shop and Paul is the TECH.

This is is an easy and cheap way to get a GREAT radio for cheap. Def don't buy the radio from the stealership unless you want to pay $300 and ^ Try to buy one from the for sale message board on here.

Again I'll post pics when I get a chance
Hope this helps everyone out!

Thanks for all of the help. I will order the part on Monday. Sounds like it should go pretty smoothly as soon as I get the 71-1771

Here is what the radio looks like installed. I haven't taken any pics of the wires. Put the radio back in before I could. I'll get them up as soon as I can.

Thanks for the pix. I have both harnesses but have not take the time to hook it up. Work has kept me traveling and things around the home are more pressing. I am getting a little impatient as this was a Xhristmas present!

I don't know if any of you guys are still active on this thread, but I have a question. I am getting ready to do this swap. From a '97 HU to a '99 I have an amp in the rear. My question is: to my understanding the '99 Cd/tape HU has a built in amp. so, do I have to bypass the rear amp in order for this to work properly?
thanks
I am waiting on the harnesses that I ordered. I ordered the same Metra harnesses that you guys had used.
Thanks

I would Imagine that you have to by pass the amp. Don't mark my words b/c I have no idea. I'm saying that you would have to bypass it b/c your amplifing something twice which is prob not good. I do know that you can swap a 99 radio like mine into a 98 w/ out any of the harness that I had to purchase. If you call the guy that I called ask him about it. He was extremely helpful. The one problem that I do have w/ my radio is that it does not light up at night. I have never gotten around to seeing what the prob was. Everything else works alright though.

Hell yeah!

I got my new '99 Cd/tape HU to work in my '97 using the two metra harnesses that you guys said to use. I also got it to dim properly when the headlights come on and also to illuminate when the headlights come on. I am pumped. Now the only thing I need to figure out is how to make my factory changer to work with this HU also. There were two plugs in the back of the '99 HU and I only used one. Does anyone have any ideas what this plug is for? Also, how will I get the changer to work with the new HU too?

Thanks guys.
