Truck turns over but won't start. After leaving it alone overnight or for several hours the truck starts. The problem only occurs occasionally and not always under the same situations (cold, hot, ect) also the truck sometimes starts fine for weeks before it happens again. I have already tried the Fuel pump relay switch and inertia (cut off) switch. There is no check engine light on. When it occurs there is no fuel pressure. Could this be anything else other than the fuel pump?? In my past experiences the fuel pumps have always either worked or not..... not this intermittent problem.......

The plug to the pump. Check it for corrosion.

I have the same problem. Turns over but won't start. 30 minutes later, it usually starts. I'll start with the fuel filter, and check the plug to the pump, but was hoping prusak1 had found a definate solution.

Turned out to be a relay of some sort. Part # f0ab 14b192-aa 5h10 0310. Local mechanic couldn't find the problem, (installed new idle air control valve) Ford dealership found the problem right away. $8 part, plus labor of course.

Most likely, it was the fuel pump relay, which is a fairly common problem.

Not to hijack your thread, but I'm curious what they billed you for installing a new IAC valve.

Local mechanic (not Ford). IAC valve 135.95, Labor 32.00.

Dang man, the part costs $40 or so at the parts store and takes 10 mins to install. Your mechanic had a good day thanks to you.

Hi all, I am having the same problem as original poster. Is there a way to test a relay to see if it is bad or not and would it cause an intermittent cold starting problem? Also, would they be available from AutoZone or PepBoys or do I have to go to the dealer parts dept.?

Thanks...

The relay should be available from a parts store; Borg Warner makes almost all those parts, among other companies.

So I get a relay from AutoZone in anticipation of the truck not starting again and sure enough, this morning it wouldn't start. I swapped out the relays and it made no difference. Now I am stuck without being able to start my truck. From reading other threads here, I have seen one where a bad O2 sensor caused the problem. Would that make the most sense for a next step to solve this intermittent problem?

make sure you are also checking to see if you got fuel (pressure) as the original poster checked before you go else where in your travels.

How true is it that either your pump works or it doesn't? I am affraid that when I wake in the morning the darn thing will start. In the past, I could wait 15 - 60 minutes and it would start. No luck today. It just will not start,
