After i change my engine 3rd time, new eng cast iron oil pan has the place for oil temp sensor but its closed. I need tap and drill size for making a hole and tap it so I can use my sensor again. From my findings it looks like M20 but i need the pitch of the treads. Any comments ? Thanks.

i don't know what size tap you need but i have a suggestion as to how to find out... take your old sensor to the hardware store and find a nut that screws onto it.

Thats what I did yesterday but no luck to find metric nut that big. I only check with course thread and it didn't fit. When I search google i found in one table m20 has 3 different thread pitch and drill size differs from 18 to 19 so I ask here maybe a good mechanic help me :-)

Try a "nuts and bolts" store - around here I usually go to Fastenall. Good luck.

humpf, well all i know about metric vs sae is that in sae you have coarse and fine thread. in metric there's coarse, fine and something in between. i tried looking on some sites to see if they listed the thread size for the sensor with the parts description, but they don't.

i found this info on a Mustang site, maybe it's the same...

"20mm 1.5 is the thread size" site also said... "For those who need to plug their low oil level sensor hole Oil plug M20 1.5 thread pitch"

hope this helps.

^ Correct.
For M20 course pitch is 2.5 and fine pitch is 1.5 or 2.0. There is also a "superfine pitch".
