Hello all Im in need of help. As I changed the passenger side spark plug wires on my 98 explorer sport 4.0L i broke what looks like a small vacume hose. I can figure out what it connects to and now when I start it up the engine shakes. Does anyone know what this is or how to fix it. thanks in advance

Which engine?

SOHC or OHV V6?

On the SOHC V6 there is a semi-rigid vacuum hose that goes to a small bulb shape vacuum reservoir below the air filter. I believe there is also a vacuum line that goes to the heating/air conditioning controls.

SOHC. The small bulb shaped vacuum resovior, is that at a ninety degree angle? I cant see where it connects to but it looks like it would run to the air filter somewhere

Bulb reservoir not visable

The bulb vacuum reservoir is not visible. It is located below the mount for the air filter enclosure. Your 1998 SOHC V6 is slightly different from my 2000 SOHC V6 because you have the variable intake system (VIS). There is a cylindrical vacuum reservoir below the upper intake manifold that is associated with a vacuum motor that controls the length of the intake runners. There is a solenoid that activates the vacuum motor above 3,000 rpm. There is a large diameter hose that connects to the passenger side of the upper intake manifold that actually contains multiple vacuum lines. It is just below the PCM connector in the photo below. These are split to make additional lines.
