I have a 98 explorer with 235k on it. Its the v6 4.0 ohc, AWD. My question is, is there a seal on the front drive shaft tube end which the inner cv joint slides into? i have some wetness at the joint where the passenger side cv joint goes into the front drive shaft drive tube. My thought is there must be a seal in the drive shaft tube end that mates with the inner cv joint shaft to prevent the front differential fluid from coming out.

inner cv joint boot is not cracked or leaking

Appreciate any help.

Yes, there's an axle seal but your talking about a CV axle, not a front drive shaft..

Understand its not a standard front drive shaft but inside the tube which is mounted to the front differential there is a shaft that the cv joint inner spline shaft splines into, correct? If so that mating flange or connection should be sealed to prevent front differnetial fluid from exiting the tube.

Is that the seal you are mentioning? second is there a procedure out on this site that describes how to remove and replace?

I'd do a search for front axle seal..
