98 explorer 4.0 tugging under acceleration

Hi, I am new here but i have a problem with my explorer that has me a bit confused. My rig has been doing this odd tug like it was missing, so i started with changing out the spark plugs. I found that it did have quiet a few bad plugs, so I did replace them. The problem has still not gone away even when under acceleration. The vehicle has 170,000 not all driven miles it use to be towed behind a motorhome. What could be causing it to keep tugging under accleration.

The fuel pump and fuel filter where also changed about 8 months ago.

Sometimes a clogged catalytic converter will cause those symptoms. Is it throwing any check engine codes? If the check light is on have them check the codes at oriellys or autozone then post the codes and we can tell a little bit more about what's going on.

Try cleaning the MAF sensor. This worked for me on a 2000 XLT with same symptom.

I'm having the same problem and think its the tranny dropping in and out of gear (doing a rebuild this week)... Did you solve your problem? What was it?
