1998 explorer limited V8
hey guys. im new to explorers and bought a 98 explorer limited with a 5.0..

must say this is a great truck with lots of power...very happy being a ford owner now.....

but recently i started hearing and feeling a bang in the floor boards close to the firewall while driving, turning into the driveway sometimes and sometimes when driving on ruff roads...

i havent had a chance to climb underneath it yet due to our weather here...FREEZING COLD....i live in northern wis.

any ideas on what it may be? im gona try to get under tomorrow afternoon since its gona be warmer out but would like a heads up on what to look for.

buddy of mine was saying maybe the torsion bars are busted but the front suspension feels fine and no unusal leans or ruff riding.

thanks for any help.

First thing to check are the vertical sway bar links. Just look under the truck. They are likely to break.

ill give them a check....i was under after i bought while i was rotating the tires at a buddies work and noticed all NEW parts in the front end.....

new sway bar links, ball joints, tie rods.....

i havent noticed any unusual swaying or wandering either when driving it....granted it needs an alignment or at least the sterring wheel straightened....

ill check them tomorrow when i get under there....

would it be best to check for stuff with the suspension at full drop or under load since that when im hearing the banging?? or both??
