When mechanic was changing plugs and wires, he noticed coolant on the plugs on drivers side and told me the head gasket was blown. Need to know if this is worth trying to get fixed. So far I haven't been able to find anyone willing and have been told is cheaper to get a new motor. Don't know if I'm just being told this because I'm a single mother or if it's true. My last payment on the truck is in May so would like to make it last 'til at least then. Thanks!

Few questions -
1) Was the truck running poorly? Excessive smoke out the tail pipe?
2) Why did you have it serviced (see ?#1)
3) How well do you know this mechanic?
4) Was the fluid on the spark plug tip or on the outside of the plug?
5) Is the truck loosing coolant or are there any cooling systems issues?

Second opinion from another mechanic or friend might not be a bad idea.

Can't offer technical advice but I can tell you one thing. Sometimes mechanics may not know how to fix the issue or want to tie up one of their bays fixing it so they'll try to convince you to just replace the motor since it could save them time. Who knows though, he may be right?
