98 Ford Ranger 4x4 3.0 with no power

I have a 98 Ford Ranger 4x4 (3.0) which is has no power at take off. Also cant go beyond 55mph revving at no more than 4000 rmps. Engine has about 150 lbs on each cylinder with no codes. Transmission seems to be shifting okay. Furthermore, he has terrible gas mileage....10mpg. Has anyone come across with something similar.

Welcome to this forum! 4K RPMS sounds like a lot of slippage.

Thanks for the response. I have heard that it can also be a bad torque converter. What do you think? Would this cause it to bog down? Thanks again!

It's possible, but I would check the valve body first.
