98 radio problem

Lately Ive noticed that the display is starting to fade and disappear. Which i know is a fatory defect problem. But ive also noticed that the sound doesnt seem as loud and the sub is starting to make funny noises. Im asumming the sub is going out. I just want to know if there are any other issues with the factory deck that would be hurting the output.

Im guessing its just old and all fails about the same time.

I doubt the display blanking has anything to do with the sub noises. Look up the LED fix on here - page 5 is the key and it's really easy. As for the sub, my 99 had a decomposition problem with the foam ring around the sub cone. As a "quick" fix I went around the rim with a thin coat of silicone. That worked great - not the same sound but no rattling or any other noises. Unfortunately that X was totalled before I could go much farther with it...

You know, I had an old set of Advent speakers (like late 60's) that we had in our dorm room. When the foam surrounds let go, I got a roll of the foam insulation strip, and bridged teh gap with that, then worked "Goop" silicone around the cone and the housing on either side (outside only) of the weatherstrip to fix it in place. Those speakers POUNDED after that- the fix lasted at least 4 years, because I sold them to my roommate when we graduated...
