98 RANGER TRANNY SICK NEEDS Rx ????

My Auto Tranny W/ Od Has An Intermittent Problem. The Od Light On Dash May Or May Not Flash During Problem. The Speedometer Needle Bounces As I Maintain Speed And The Tranny Will Seem To Slip In And Out Of Gear. Every One I Ask Has No Idea What The Flashing Od Light Means. Checks Out Ok At Shop When Its There. Hav Changed Fluid And Filter In Tranny.

The transmission solenoids rely on inputs from the computer to know what to do and when to do it. The computer gets its information from various engine sensors - including the vehicle speed sensor (VSS). To give proper information to the transmission solenoids the computer needs good input data.. in the old comuter jargon - garbage in garbage out. My advice? Fix the speed sensor issue first. It MAY be your root cause. In fact I am betting on it.
