98 SOHC Sport, wierd metal noise.

My explorer developed this wierd noise for the past 4000 miles. Sound like something loose "metal rattling" sound of some sort. Seems to be coming from under the car. Only noticible at low speeds( below 5mph), or sometimes when stopped and in gear, never seems to do it when not in gear. Any suggestions?

Check for pebbles/debris caught

between the heat shield and exhaust/catalytic system under your Exploder oops I mean Explorer.
This is very common from my experience and more of a nuisance than anything. Good luck!

thanks david.... checked it out today and found the problem. Like you said it was next to the catalytic converter and the trans... the heatshield was completly loose, clamped it bank on, and noise is gone.
