Ok, have a '98 Sport 4X4 4.0SOHC with 174,000 miles on it. A couple months ago I was getting gas, got back in the car and started it up, idle went straight to 2500rpm. Shut it off, waited, started, same thing. I couldn't find a problem with a quick look under the hood so I started it back up and quickly put it drive and went home. Next morning, no problem. Just the other day it did the same thing only this time it didn't stop. Idle is over 1000 in drive and can be as high as 1300. I got a new IAC and installed it, problem went away for a couple days and started again. Strange thing is, it isn't consistant, sometimes it idles fine, sometimes it jumps up high. Got it home, sprayed carb cleaner at every spot there could possibly be a leak, no change. Then I thought maybe the TPS is stuck, loosened it up, tapped on it, started it back up, now the idle is normal again. Only time will tell if that fixed it, there are no codes which leads me to believe it could be the ECM or maybe a bad TPS. Any other suggestions?? This is my GF's car and I don't feel safe letting her drive it with this issue. Need to fix it ASAP but right now it's fine?? Strange!!
