98 XLT - a/c clutch engages, then clicks and remains off(?).

'98 XLT - 2WD
We successfully renewed the a/c on this 5.0 XLT, worked with 40 degree vent temps for weeks - now she (ac compressor) engages then soon clicks off and remains off(?).

I’d check the pressure switches if you’re confident it’s charged.

You say you “renewed” it. What originally failed, and what all was replaced?
 






New compressor assembly, orifice, accumulator, low pressure switch. System was properly flushed also.
We enjoyed 40 degree air for several weeks.
 












Can you jump power to the AC clutch and make it run with the engine running?

Your problem could be cause by a few simple things. But I need more information. The static pressure just tell me there is some gas in the system.
1. What was the outside temperature when you read the static pressure? 85 degree F?
2. Did the system just stop cooling? Monday you have AC , tuesday No AC.
3. now she (ac compressor) engages then soon clicks off and remains off. This statement tells me that the switches are good.
4. I believe your system was getting warmer ( vent temperature) as the weeks went on. Is this a true statement?

2. Just started the switch off problem overnight
Then maybe a loose connections at the connectors. Check the low pressure switch connector on the filter dryer and the connector on the compressor. If you have a multi meter check the resistance the switch on the filter/dryer. It should read close circuit(0) this also tell you the system is charged. Do the same for the switch on the compressor.
If you don't have a multi meter, just jump the connector and if the compressor runs. Also check the compressor clutch. With the AC system in on position , hit the clutch face with the handle of a screwdriver to see if it engages. If it does, then a shim need too be remove.
