99 4.0 OHV 4x4 This has been a daily driver (wifes car ) and a grocery getter up until now with 150k miles and something is about to go out. Sounded like a bearing squalling intermitantly from the transmission, tcase, or rear diff. This is after hauling a heavy load of landscape bricks in the back. This is the ONLY heavy load I have ever hauled with it and a few days later it acts up ! I have kind of babied this thing the whole time I've owned it because the tranny has always seemed like it would break and the truck doesnt exactly handle very well at all ( top heavy and soft suspension ). You folks know these vehicles well so tell me. Is this suv worthy of being turned into a true utility vehicle ? Can the suspension be tuned/swapped to handle like its built out of something ? How about the 5r55e automatic, is it a weak link ? I've never even put a hitch on this ride in fear of breaking it.
It's a nice looking truck and I hate to give up on it so give me some ideas or tell me if I should chuck it and buy a different year. Thanks in advance.
