99 escort keyless entry problem

we have a 99 escort with the factory keyless entry. the problem is when you lock the doors with the remote and the THEFT light is on on the dash about a minute after you set it the horn will just start honking. You have to go out and hit the horn button on the remote to get it to shut off then it is fine. Any ideas?

Some things I'd look at are the hood switch and ignition tamper switch. I've never worked on a escort anti theft so this might not apply.
