Hello,
'99 Expolrer V6 SOHC with 139,000 miles dies when I try to drive, it idles just fine in park but sputters, jerks and then dies when gased in reverse or drive.
The check engine light came on about 2 months back, egr issues according to Autozones code reader, then the same at Seeburg and another shop. The EGR valve has been tested with a hand pump, cleaned and the mass air flow sensor was replaced. This all helped for nothing and was very costly and of course the check engine light still came right back on after I disconnected the battery for a few minutes.
I replaced the thermostat 4 days ago due to a overheating scare which worked out great as the temp gauge is reading stable. Today it drove like a champ then tonight on the way home from work I tried to pull from the parking lot and it died on me severel times. I can slowly reach speeds up to about 30 MPH on flat ground but if I try to actually drive it sputters hard, slugs and kills over, it won't pull any small hills at all and stays running as long as I keep my foot of the gas pedal.
Friends have given ideas of maybe bad spark plugs, distributer cap, router or points. Another suggested the fuel fliter. Any of you fine folks have any suggestions ?
Thanks and Happy Holidays.
