Hello everyone,

I am new on here so first of all, hello. The reason for this is post is I very recently purchased a 99 Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition V6 4WD. This is day 3 of owning it and I had to have it towed. I came to a stop this morning and when I went to drive away, the engine just rev'd like it was in neutral along with a loud rattling sound coming from the transmission, when I put it into park, a loud noise came from the steering column, I tried everything to get it to go, turned it off and on, switched into 4WD, nothing worked. Has anyone had this problem, I would really like to have an idea of what it could be before taking it to the garage, any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

**UPDATEI did some research and it looks like the is the shift motor on the back of the transfer case, right now the transfer case is stuck in between 2WD + 4WD, so essentially the transmission is still turning but the differential is not transmitting the power to the wheels, it is about a $150 fix, I have learned a lot from this experience.

Hellova way to learn.

To get it going temporarily you can take the shift motor off and adjust the transfer case manually.

Great thanks man, that was plan B, but I managed to find the shift motor locally here in town

One more question, the shaft on the transfercase that switches the transfer case between 2WD + 4WD, how do I know what position to turn it to to get the truck into 2WD manually?

That I don't know, sorry.
