Hi everyone, changing my oil and removed a fram ph8 oil filter.
A couple of weeks ago at Canadian Tire they had a Quaker State sale, with a QS filter free.
Anyways in the book it said PH8a.It is narrower than the fram and has the same size thread.(Noticeably narrower). This is a single overhead cam engine.
Anyone know the right size QS filter if this one is not correct. Thanks.

I have one of the fram extra guard ph8a oil filters. Plenty big enough! Never failed me yet on this explorer or my last one.

Also, I just remembered. The 99 f-150 and the f-250 use the ph8a as well so if those trucks are fine with it I'm sure our explorers will be too.

So I took the filter back to CT. The difference between the Fram ph8a and the QS 8a is unbelievable. It's the right one, tried it no leaks,OK.If you saw it you would not believe how small the QS is to the Fram. Thanks for your replies.

if its that small, think of how small the actual filter area is then. i stick with the good ol motorcraft filter and motorcraft synblend oil.

but to each his/her own.

Bradr,I also think there is something out of wack, but QS,has been around forever, makes me think The Fram filter has just a lot more casing, but the filter media I imagine would be very close IMO. What other reason would there be?.
