Am happy to have found this forum. Just finished replacing timing chains and guides/cassettes in 99 Mountaineer 4.0 SOHC. All went well and engine sounds great but had transmission issue on the initial test drive. As the engine warmed up, the transmission began hesitating when shifting from reverse to drive and back. Also have discovered that if I shut the OD off, the transmission will not engage in any gear. Am wondering if this might be caused by the fact that some of the fluid ran out of the torque converter when I was doing the rebuild. I didn't bother to put any fludi back in the converter when I reassembled the engine because I assumed it would be made up from the fluid in the transmission. Any suggestions? Thanks.
