Hey, guys.

My 99 is a 4.0L XLT with about 120,000 miles on it. A few months after I got it, and as the weather got colder, I noticed that it would take quite a while for the tranny to engage, regardless of if I was trying to move right after startup or let it get good and warmed up. Once I got it to shift a few times, it would run fine. I asked about this issue in the past, and someone had suggested maybe a lazy solenoid. Haven't replaced that yet.

Purpose of my post, though, is Tuesday morning as I was driving to work, the O/D flash started. Seemed to take forever to leave a stopsign, but once it got going, would drive fine again until I came to a dead stop. Tuesday night when I left work, the OD flash was gone. Yesterday, then the Check Engine light came on. Haven't had codes pulled yet, but I did have a problem with an O2 sensor, and hope that's it. Anyway the check engine light is no longer on now again.

My question is this: Do I go ahead and replace the solenoids, or, with the OD flash (even temporarily), should I be looking at a more extensive repair? I guess it's possible that that code I threw yesterday may have the answer, but wanted to get some perspective on the solenoids, too.

Any help is appreciated. I really like my X and want to keep it running. Now my EX, not so much. :p:

i had a similar problem with my 99. altough my tranny would over rev when it would shift from 1rst to 2nd. didnt get why then after it warmed up it would stop. i too also had a problem with the O/D light flashing for some reason. im still puzzled as to why. but back to the shifting problem i bought some stuff at Orielys it was in a red tube and it seemed to do the trick. i cant remember what its called ill check and see and it might help.

Yeah, in those first couple of shifts, my engine overrevs as well. Trans will engage, although sometimes rather violently, sometimes rather smoothly. Then it's all good.

Just an update: I had the check engine code read and it was for O2 sensor again, so that doesn't help this issue. Any thoughts?

Anytime your engine isn't right can affect the way your transmission acts.
