Hello, I have a 99 XLS that I have not driven in a while (apox 4 months). My friend wanted to go out so I let him drive it, We got gas filled it up and went on our way. While making a left turn, The truck just shut down and coasted through the turn. luckily we did not get hit from behind. We had pulled over, and the truck was restarted and ran fine the rest of the day putting around 50-80mi on it afterwards.

Note: We did have the a/c on before the Truck shut down. On the way home we didn't run it in case that was the issue. Also, after the trip I noticed the gas cap was not completely locked in.

It still has a warranty from our local ford dealer, But I'm not sure I want to take it there (they don't seem to bright if you know what i mean).

Any idea's?

Thanks!

Has it done it again? It could have been just a brief fuel starvation problem related to the storage time. Though this is more common with carbed vehicles than with fuel injection. Where in the OC? Capistrano Ford does decent work even on modified vehicles. RSM Ford won't even touch my truck and after talking to them, I wouldn't let them do a simple oil change.

Did didn't do it again. So maybe this was a 1 time deal. I'm going to add some gas additive (not sure off hand what it's called) we have used it in our 03 EX since the gas gauge has issues. So I'll probably just drive it around the block a few times and burn the gas down to about E then see what happens. I don't have a code reader or scanner, so I'm not sure about that.

I'm around the Fullerton area.

it's very possible that some condensation/water got into the fuel system, especially if the tank was almost empty while you stored it. If it doesn't happen again then I wouldn't worry about it. Technically something like this shouldn't happen, but it is possible as you found out. Fuel problems are becoming more common now as a result of switching to ethanol over MTBE.
